I’m Going to Chautauqua

I received a grant from Highlights to attend their summer conference. I’m so thrilled to have the opportunity to meet people from the publishing world. But July is coming fast and I have so many things to do before the conference. I’m looking forward to a good time.

My 6-year-old son’s face turned beet red when I read the poem “Blush” from Laura Salas’s new book “Stampede” to him. Turns out he has a crush on a classmate.

Easter Day

Brandon, my 6-year-old son, was all fired up for the Easter Bunny this year. He made three extra Easter bags out of paper (we go through a lot of paper in this home). One basket was the size of a poster board. What was the Easter Bunny supposed to put in that? Baby bunnies?

Texas Library Conference

There has never been a better time to be a teacher, librarian, student, writer. Books abound all around us. Some books are for the sole purpose of entertaining us, while others fill our minds with knowledge and wonder. I like to picture books (no pun intended) as gardens. The more we read them, the faster our knowledge grows.
